World’s Most Profitable Companies in 2026: Alphabet, NVIDIA, Microsoft and Apple Lead

Written by Amit Khari·Reviewed by Pramita Singh·Published on 18 July 2026

Global corporate profitability has reached extraordinary levels in 2026. Technology companies now dominate the top positions, supported by artificial intelligence, cloud computing, digital advertising, semiconductor demand and subscription-based services.

According to FinanceCharts’ July 2026 global screener, Alphabet was the world’s most profitable company by trailing-12-month net income, narrowly ahead of NVIDIA. Microsoft and Apple occupied the next two positions.

Top 10 companies ranked by TTM net income

These figures represent a dated snapshot and can change after every quarterly earnings season. Net income may also include investment gains, currency movements, tax benefits and other non-operating items. Therefore, investors should examine operating profit and free cash flow alongside headline net income.

1. Alphabet: Approximately $160.2 Billion

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, led the global ranking with approximately $160.2 billion in trailing-12-month net income.

Its profit-generating ecosystem includes Google Search, YouTube advertising, Google Cloud, Android, subscriptions and digital platforms. Alphabet reported that YouTube’s combined advertising and subscription revenue exceeded $60 billion during 2025, demonstrating the growing scale of its video business.

However, investors should note that Alphabet’s recent net-income figure was helped by substantial unrealised gains on equity investments. Its core advertising and cloud businesses remain highly profitable, but reported net income may be higher than profit generated from normal operations alone.

2. NVIDIA: Approximately $159.6 Billion

NVIDIA’s rise has been one of the most remarkable corporate profit stories of the artificial-intelligence era.

The company designs graphics processing units and computing systems used by data centres, cloud providers and businesses developing AI models. NVIDIA’s trailing-12-month net income reached approximately $159.6 billion by July 2026.

NVIDIA officially reported first-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $81.6 billion, an increase of 85% from the previous year. Its quarterly net income was approximately $58.3 billion, while Data Centre revenue reached $75.2 billion. These results show how global investment in AI infrastructure has transformed NVIDIA into one of the world’s largest profit generators.

3. Microsoft: Approximately $125.2 Billion

Microsoft generated approximately $125.2 billion in trailing-12-month net income, placing it third in the latest ranking.

The company has built multiple recurring-revenue businesses through Microsoft 365, Azure, Dynamics, LinkedIn, gaming and enterprise software. Microsoft Cloud revenue reached $168.9 billion in fiscal 2025, while Azure and other cloud-services revenue continued to grow rapidly.

Microsoft’s combination of enterprise relationships, subscription products, cloud infrastructure and AI services gives it a diversified profit base that is difficult for competitors to replicate.

4. Apple: Approximately $122.6 Billion

Apple remained among the world’s four most profitable companies with approximately $122.6 billion in trailing-12-month net income.

The iPhone continues to be central to Apple’s business, but Services—including the App Store, iCloud, Apple Music, Apple TV and payment services—have become increasingly important. Services typically produce more recurring revenue and stronger margins than hardware sales.

Apple reported record fiscal first-quarter 2026 revenue of $143.8 billion. The company said iPhone revenue achieved its best-ever quarter, while Services revenue also reached an all-time high and increased 14% year over year.

5. Amazon: Approximately $90.8 Billion

Amazon generated approximately $90.8 billion in trailing-12-month net income.

Although consumers primarily recognise Amazon as an e-commerce company, its profit performance is supported by several businesses. Amazon Web Services provides cloud-computing infrastructure, while advertising, marketplace commissions, fulfilment services and subscriptions contribute additional revenue.

Amazon’s overall profit margin remains lower than those of software and semiconductor leaders. However, even a moderate margin applied to its enormous revenue base can produce tens of billions of dollars in annual earnings.

6. Berkshire Hathaway: Approximately $72.5 Billion

Berkshire Hathaway earned approximately $72.5 billion on a trailing-12-month basis.

The conglomerate owns businesses operating in insurance, rail transportation, energy, manufacturing, services and retail. It also maintains a large portfolio of publicly traded investments.

Berkshire warns that reported net earnings can fluctuate considerably because accounting rules require unrealised gains and losses from its investment portfolio to be included in quarterly results. The company therefore considers operating earnings a more useful measure of underlying business performance.

7. Meta Platforms: Approximately $70.6 Billion

Meta Platforms generated approximately $70.6 billion in trailing-12-month net income.

Its principal platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp. Most of Meta’s revenue continues to come from digital advertising, where its massive audience and AI-powered recommendation systems help businesses reach potential customers.

Meta is investing heavily in artificial intelligence, data centres, wearable technology and Reality Labs. The company has stated that hiring and spending during 2026 will support priority areas, particularly AI.

8. TSMC: Approximately $70 Billion

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company generated approximately $70 billion in trailing-12-month net income.

TSMC manufactures advanced semiconductors designed by technology companies. Its customers rely on the company for sophisticated chip-production processes and advanced packaging.

During 2025, technologies using seven-nanometre processes or more advanced nodes accounted for 74% of TSMC’s total wafer revenue. The company expects the expanding adoption of AI across consumer, enterprise and sovereign applications to continue supporting demand for energy-efficient computing.

9. JPMorgan Chase: Approximately $63.6 Billion

JPMorgan Chase was the most profitable major bank in the ranking, with approximately $63.6 billion in trailing-12-month net income.

Its operations cover consumer banking, credit cards, commercial banking, investment banking, payments, asset management and private banking. This broad business mix allows JPMorgan to earn revenue from interest income, transaction fees, advisory services and investment-management activities.

Bank profits can nevertheless change with interest rates, loan losses, trading conditions, economic activity and regulatory requirements.

10. Samsung Electronics: Approximately $56 Billion

Samsung Electronics completed the top 10 with approximately $56 billion in trailing-12-month net income.

Its operations extend across memory chips, smartphones, displays, consumer electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. Samsung’s profitability can be cyclical because memory-chip prices frequently rise and fall according to industry supply and demand.

Demand related to artificial intelligence and data-centre infrastructure has increased the strategic importance of advanced memory technologies, potentially supporting semiconductor producers during the next phase of the computing cycle.

Where Does Saudi Aramco Rank?

Saudi Aramco remains one of the largest corporate profit generators in the world, but its figures should not be mixed directly with the TTM ranking unless the same measurement period is used.

Aramco officially reported adjusted net income of $104.7 billion for the full 2025 financial year. Based on that figure, it would sit below Microsoft and Apple but above Amazon in the table. Its profitability is supported by enormous production scale and comparatively low oil-extraction costs, although results remain sensitive to oil prices and global energy demand.

Why Technology Companies Dominate the Ranking

The 2026 ranking demonstrates a major shift in the global profit landscape. Digital businesses can serve billions of customers without increasing costs at the same rate as traditional manufacturing companies.

Several common characteristics support their profitability:

  • Scalable software, advertising and cloud platforms
  • Recurring subscription and service revenue
  • Strong intellectual property and customer ecosystems
  • Global distribution with relatively low incremental costs
  • Rapidly expanding demand for AI computing infrastructure

Technology and semiconductor businesses accounted for an estimated 71% of the combined net income among the 25 companies included in one June 2026 analysis.

Most Profitable Does Not Mean Most Valuable

Profit and market value measure different things.

Net income represents the money remaining after a company deducts expenses, interest and taxes from revenue. Market capitalisation represents the stock market’s valuation of the entire company.

A business can generate less current profit but receive a higher market value when investors expect faster future growth. Similarly, a highly profitable business may trade at a lower valuation when its profits are cyclical or expected to decline.

Investors should therefore analyse revenue growth, operating margins, free cash flow, debt, competitive position and valuation—not net income alone.
