FAQs

What are the major Asian stock market indices?

The headline Asia-Pacific benchmarks are Japan's Nikkei 225, China's Shanghai Composite, Hong Kong's Hang Seng, South Korea's KOSPI, Taiwan's TAIEX, India's Nifty 50, Singapore's Straits Times Index (STI) and Australia's ASX 200. Together they cover the region's largest equity markets and are the primary reference points for Asian market sentiment each trading day.

What time do Asian stock markets open in IST?

In Indian Standard Time: Tokyo (Nikkei 225) opens at 05:30 IST, Seoul (KOSPI) at 05:30 IST, Sydney (ASX 200) at 05:30 IST (AEST), Taipei (TAIEX) at 06:30 IST, Singapore (STI) at 06:30 IST, Shanghai at 07:00 IST, Hong Kong at 07:00 IST, and India's NSE at 09:15 IST. Because most of Asia trades before Mumbai opens, the regional session provides an early read on risk sentiment for the Indian open.

What is the difference between the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock markets?

The Shanghai Stock Exchange lists mainland-Chinese A-shares, is quoted in yuan (CNY) and has significant foreign-investor access restrictions, so it is driven largely by domestic Chinese flows and policy. The Hong Kong Exchange (Hang Seng) is an international market quoted in Hong Kong dollars with no capital controls — many large mainland companies list there as H-shares. The Hang Seng is therefore the most accessible proxy for Chinese equity exposure for global investors, while Shanghai better reflects onshore Chinese sentiment.

Why are Taiwan and South Korea important for global semiconductor investors?

Taiwan's TSMC fabricates the majority of the world's leading-edge chips — including virtually all high-end AI accelerators — and alone represents roughly a third of the TAIEX. South Korea's Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix dominate the global memory-chip (DRAM and NAND) market and are the largest weights in the KOSPI. Together the two indices are the purest listed exposure to the global semiconductor supply chain, and they typically react to AI-capex and chip-cycle news before broader global benchmarks.

Are Asian market prices on LiveWorldMarket real-time or delayed?

Prices are refreshed continuously from Yahoo Finance, TradingView and Upstox. Indian index data via Upstox is real-time during NSE market hours; most other Asian index and currency quotes can be delayed by up to 15 minutes depending on the source exchange's redistribution rules. Each figure carries a last-updated timestamp, and stale values are flagged.
