RSI Overbought Stocks — Nifty 500 Stock Screener
An RSI(14) reading above 70 marks a stock as 'overbought' — recent gains have been unusually fast relative to losses. This screener returns every stock in the selected universe whose latest completed daily candle closed with RSI above that threshold. Traders watch this list from two opposite angles, which is exactly what makes it useful.

Understanding the RSI Overbought Stocks scan
An RSI(14) reading above 70 marks a stock as 'overbought' — recent gains have been unusually fast relative to losses. This screener returns every stock in the selected universe whose latest completed daily candle closed with RSI above that threshold. Traders watch this list from two opposite angles, which is exactly what makes it useful.
Reversal traders treat overbought readings as an early caution flag: extended rallies frequently pause, consolidate sideways or retrace once RSI pushes into the 70s, particularly when the reading comes with a bearish divergence (price making a new high while RSI makes a lower high). Momentum traders read the very same list the opposite way — in powerful uptrends, the strongest stocks reach overbought early and stay there, so an RSI above 70 can be evidence of leadership rather than exhaustion.
Context resolves the ambiguity. A stock hitting RSI 75 for the first time after a long base breakout is behaving very differently from one printing its third overbought reading inside a parabolic move. Combining this scan with the 52-week-high breakout list or the EMA alignment scan helps separate fresh momentum from late-stage froth.
How to use this scan
- Scan the list for bearish divergences — price at new highs while RSI prints lower highs.
- For momentum trading, prefer stocks that just entered overbought territory from a base rather than those overbought for weeks.
- Avoid initiating fresh shorts purely on an overbought reading — strong trends routinely stay above RSI 70.
- Use the list to review existing longs: tightening stop-losses into overbought strength is a common playbook.
- Check upcoming events (earnings, ex-dates) before reading too much into any single spike.
Risks & limitations
Overbought is not a sell signal by itself — the strongest uptrends spend long stretches above RSI 70, and shorting them purely on this reading is a well-documented losing strategy. No single indicator condition is a trade recommendation. Screener output is a starting shortlist, not a buy or sell call — it ignores fundamentals, news, earnings dates, promoter actions and your personal risk profile. Results are computed on completed candles from historical NSE data, so intraday moves after the last update are not reflected. Always confirm on the chart, size positions conservatively and use stop-losses.
