How to use the Technical Chart
A quick reference for every control, drawing tool and indicator available on this page. Charts are for information and education only — not investment advice.
Getting started
- Pick a symbol — Click the symbol pill next to ← Live World Market (or press the search icon) and type any Indian stock, index, F&O contract or global ticker. Recently viewed picks appear on the empty state.
- Choose a timeframe — Use the timeframe dropdown on the right of the toolbar. Intraday (1m-4h) is session-aligned to 09:15 IST; higher (1D · 1W · 1M) is calendar-based.
- Switch chart style — Candles show OHLC bars, Line and Area plot close only, HA (Heikin-Ashi) smooths noise with a modified OHLC formula — great for spotting trend continuation.
- Live status pill — LIVE · WS means real-time WebSocket ticks. LIVE · Xs means HTTP polling (Watchlist-parity fallback). DELAYED means the feed is stale — an auto-refresh watchdog will attempt recovery every ~5s.
Chart controls
- Horizontal zoom — Use the +/- buttons (or press + / -) to zoom into a slice of the timeline. Fit resets to show all loaded candles.
- Vertical zoom (price axis) — The +Y / -Y buttons on the right price axis rescale the price range around the current mid-price. Useful for tight ranges or wide gaps.
- Auto scale lock — The padlock next to the DEMO badge freezes the current price range so live ticks don't force the chart to re-fit on every update.
- Fullscreen — The maximize icon expands the chart to fill the viewport. Press Esc or click again to exit.
- Theme toggle — Sun / Moon switches between dark and light color palettes. Preference is saved per browser.
- Snapshot — The camera icon exports the current chart as a PNG image at 2x device resolution.
Drawing tools
- Cursor — Default mode. Enables the crosshair, hover legend and drag-to-reposition anchors on existing drawings.
- Horizontal line — Single click at any price level to lay a horizontal reference (support / resistance).
- Trend line — Two clicks — start and end anchor. Drag either anchor to adjust; right-click to change color or delete.
- Price range — Two clicks defining top and bottom of a rectangle. Shows the % and absolute distance between the two levels.
- Fibonacci retracement — Two clicks between a swing high and swing low. Auto-draws the 0 / 0.236 / 0.382 / 0.5 / 0.618 / 0.786 / 1.0 retracement levels.
- Color palette & Clear — The 8-swatch palette sets the color of the NEXT drawing. The trash icon at the bottom of the rail clears every drawing on the current instrument.
Layouts, indicators & keyboard
- Save layout — Layouts capture theme · timeframe · chart type · every indicator (with parameters) · drawings · zoom. Save the current workspace with a name and switch between them in one click.
- Multi-instance indicators — Indicators dropdown → Add. You can stack multiple copies of any indicator (e.g. SMA 20 + SMA 50 + SMA 200) each with their own length, source and color.
- Keyboard shortcuts — + / - horizontal zoom · Shift + / - vertical zoom · F fit · 0 reset · L jump to latest · Esc closes modals & cancels drawings.
Indicator glossary
What each indicator means
Add any of these from Indicators → Add. Each supports multiple simultaneous instances with independent lengths, sources and colors.
Trend & Moving Averages (price pane)
SMA — Simple Moving Average
Arithmetic mean of the last N closes. Slow, smooth trend baseline. Standard lengths: 20 (short), 50 (medium), 200 (long).
EMA — Exponential Moving Average
Weighted mean that reacts faster to recent prices. Cross-overs of EMA 9/21 or 50/200 are classic momentum signals.
VWMA — Volume Weighted MA
SMA weighted by volume — highlights price levels backed by real participation.
VWAP — Session (IST day reset)
Volume-weighted average price, reset at 09:15 IST every trading day. The intraday fair-value reference used by institutional desks.
Parabolic SAR
Dots that flip sides when the trend reverses. Above price = downtrend, below = uptrend. Popular trailing-stop mechanism.
Supertrend
ATR-based trend follower plotted as a colored line (green = long bias, red = short). Change of color = trend flip signal.
Ichimoku Cloud
Five-line composite: Tenkan, Kijun, Senkou A/B (the cloud) and Chikou. Price above cloud = bullish, below = bearish; cloud thickness signals conviction.
Volatility & Bands (price pane)
Bollinger Bands
SMA plus/minus N standard deviations (default 20, 2σ). Squeezes signal low volatility; touches / breaks of the outer band suggest exhaustion or breakout.
Donchian Channel
Highest high and lowest low of the last N periods. Break of the upper band = classic Turtle breakout entry.
Keltner Channel
EMA plus/minus (ATR × multiplier). Similar to Bollinger but volatility measured via ATR — smoother, less noisy.
Pivot Points
Support (S1-S4) and resistance (R1-R4) levels calculated from the prior period's high/low/close. Supports Traditional, Fibonacci, Woodie, Camarilla, DeMark and Classic methods. Anchor to daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly.
Momentum & Oscillators (sub-pane)
RSI — Relative Strength Index
0-100 oscillator (default 14). >70 = overbought, <30 = oversold. Divergence between RSI and price often precedes reversals.
MACD
Difference of EMA fast/slow (default 12/26) with a 9-period signal line and histogram. Signal-line crosses and histogram flips = momentum shifts.
Stochastic %K/%D
Where price closes within the recent range. %K crossing %D from below in oversold zone (< 20) is a bullish trigger.
CCI — Commodity Channel Index
Deviation from a moving average, unbounded but typically ±100. Above +100 = strong uptrend momentum, below -100 = strong downtrend.
Williams %R
Inverted stochastic scaled -100 to 0. Values near -20 signal overbought, near -80 oversold.
ROC — Rate of Change
Percentage change vs N periods ago. Positive = uptrending momentum, negative = downtrending. Zero-line crosses are entry signals.
Aroon Up / Down
Two lines (0-100) measuring how recently a period's high/low occurred. Aroon Up > 70 with Aroon Down < 30 = strong uptrend.
Trend Strength & Directional (sub-pane)
ADX / DMI
ADX (0-100) gauges trend STRENGTH regardless of direction. Above 25 = trending market. +DI / -DI cross tells you whether bulls or bears lead.
ATR — Average True Range
Absolute volatility measure. Used to size stops (e.g. entry ± 2 × ATR) and to normalise position size across instruments.
Volume & Money Flow (sub-pane)
OBV — On Balance Volume
Cumulative volume that adds on up-days and subtracts on down-days. Rising OBV confirms an uptrend; divergence warns of weakness.
MFI — Money Flow Index
Volume-weighted RSI (0-100). Overbought > 80, oversold < 20. Sharper than pure RSI on liquid instruments.
Chaikin Money Flow
Volume weighted by where price closes within the day's range. Positive readings suggest accumulation, negative distribution.
